Podcast: Episode 20 The Art In Being Alive With Sheryl Hirsch-Kramer

Journeys Into Enlightenment with Janet Podcast Logo

This podcast series focuses on the intersection of Consciousness and Self. This is our “Journey into Enlightenment.” At the core of human reality is Consciousness. Humans are self-defining creatures. We develop rule sets and stories that generate our experiences of reality. Consciousness is the state of awareness in each of us where our self-defined realities are only one of the many options in potential that could be expressed.

Each episode you will join Janet and her friends to gather in this core in Heart Centered Awareness. You will feel this state where time and space are malleable, potential is active and change in our day to day experiences can be felt in the moment. You will witness this sharing in the expansive variety of expressions of Consciousness, and as form and language in our physical and non-physical worlds. Experience new definitions in Self and join in the collective community we call Consciousness.

Essence: Episode NotesHeart with a tree of life inside

Our lives are an expression of Being. It is performance art. We are our own creations. Joining Janet is Sheryl Hirsch-Kramer. We know her as the instigator of the Love and Kindness Initiative. She is also a former calligraphy artist and teacher who taught how the Divine within us nudges us in our art. BE with us, as we consider the elements in expressing our lives as art.

Sheryl Hirsch-Kramer

Sheryl Hirsch-Kramer studied phenomenological psychology and philosophy at Duquesne University before earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education from The Pennsylvania State University. She spent thirty-five years studying and practicing calligraphy, eventually becoming a traveling instructor. Her program “The Up Side of Screwing Up,” was a loving look at how making mistakes during the creation of art can often be Divine nudges to ditch the original design and go with something very different.

A near-death experience in 1998 led her to study the healing arts. She has earned many certifications that helped her create her present work.

Sheryl uses what she learned as an artist in creating her new way of engaging living as the after effect of experiencing four life-changing strokes.

The death of her cousin, killed in the October 2018 Pittsburgh synagogue shooting, led Sheryl to create The Love and Kindness Initiative. Through it she explores what good might happen in the world when she helps others to celebrate people for being loving and kind. You can find out more at TransformingThroughLove.com for The Love and Kindness Initiative.

Sheryl's first book, “Nine Roses for Chelsea” was published in 2005. She is currently editing her second book, “Love, Laila.“ She was the host for “Glow With The Flow Radio” on BlogTalkRadio and VoiceAmerica Radio, Catalytic Radio on BBS Radio, and several teleseminar series. She now produces what she calls “brief, heartfelt, and ultra low tech videos” for her YouTube channel, “Transforming Through Love and Kindness.”

You can reach Sheryl at her website TransformingThroughLove.com and fill out the contact form.

Language: Featured Words in ContextTree of life with heart on trunk

An artist is someone who practices any creative art or can be one who is skilled at a particular task or occupation. Consider how you take a breath. We are each artists.

Artists will try different things. They explore different ways to express what they their senses are noticing and how they interpret it. They take a medium, be it words, clay, paint, food, or people and learn it and let it be a way to express their experience with both the medium, inspiration, intention and skill set.

Permission to make mess. One thing you might notice about making art is that it can be messy. Sometimes things don’t go as planned or in neat ways and something magical, art, is the result.

“Every day think, as you wake up, today I am fortunate to be alive, I have a precious human life, I am not going to waste it. I am going to use all my energies to develop myself, to expand my heart out to others; to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all beings. I am going to have kind thoughts towards others, I am not going to get angry or think badly about others. I am going to benefit others as much as I can.”

The Dalai Lama

“Art is not a gene or a specific talent. Art is an attitude, culturally driven and available to anyone who chooses to adopt it. Art isn’t something sold in a gallery or performed on a stage. Art is the unique work of a human being, work that touches another. Seizing new ground, making connections between people or ideas, working without a map – these are works of art, and if you do them, you are an artist, regardless of whether you wear a smock, use a computer, or work with others all day long.”

The Icarus Deception by Seth Godin

“Life is creation – self and circumstances, the raw material.”

Dorothy Richardson

“Art is standing with one hand extended into the universe and one hand extended into the world, and letting ourselves be a conduit for passing energy.”

Albert Einstein

“To create, one must first question everything.”

“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.”

Pablo Picasso

“Painting is self-discovery. Every good artist paints what he is.”

Jackson Pollock

“I guess I’m a little weird. I like to talk to trees and animals. That’s okay though; I have more fun than most people.”

Bob Ross

“You have to systematically create confusion; it sets creativity free. Everything that is contradictory creates life.”

Salvador Dalí

“Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.”
